![]() To give just one example of Piketty’s esoteric economic ideas, consider his views on capital: With his now famous formula, r > g (the rate of return on capital is greater than the rate of economic growth), he treats capital as a monolith endowed with mysterious powers to “reproduce” (p. Second, his book is littered with flaws and fallacies, catalogued in my short book, Problems with Piketty. ![]() ![]() (Piketty publicly retracted them last year, supplying new data sets that also have been debunked). First, the mounds of data in Capital were thoroughly debunked by multiple American economists. ![]() Piketty’s “proof,” though, is full of holes. They believe that Capital proves that there is a maldistribution of wealth that government must correct. In his book, Piketty decries the unequal distribution of wealth that exists both within and between the world’s countries, and he calls for national governments to work together to reduce this inequality via increased taxation of income and accumulated wealth.Īs attested by the gaudy sales figures, Piketty’s book struck a responsive chord among egalitarians, progressives, social justice advocates, etc. French economist Thomas Piketty’s book Capital in the Twenty-First Century reportedly has sold more than 1.5 million copies in its combined French and English translations. ![]() ![]() ![]() Ten Boom has received numerous awards for her writing and speaking. ![]() These acts of heroism and sacrifice became the foundation for Corrie ten Boom's global writing and speaking career which began after she was released. The ten Boom family members were separated and transferred to concentration camps. They were hiding, feeding and transporting Jews and underground members hunted by the Gestapo out of the country. During the Nazi occupation, they chose to act out their faith through peaceful resistance to the Nazis by active participation in the Dutch underground. Corrie ten Boom and her family were Christians who were active in social work in their home town of Haarlem, the Netherlands. ![]() ![]() The book was written wholly in plain prose and while it was not beautiful or poetic, it was very understandable. ![]() The former was very good (made of Leopard People (those with magic) and Lambs (those without)) and the latter was simple. Summary: This novel is pretty good but a Nigerian sensitivity reader would have done a lot of good to it.įirst, the concept and style of writing. I saw this novel last year and I was so happy!! A novel about Nigerians set in Nigeria and written by a Nigerian author? Damn…I was all like “Sign me up!!” When I learnt that the author had lived in the US all her life, some of my happiness dissipated but I decided to read it all the same. But will it be enough to help them when they are asked to catch a career criminal who knows magic too? Soon she is part of a quartet of magic students studying the visible and invisible, learning to change reality. And then she discovers something amazing–she is a “free agent” with latent magical power. There seems to be no place where she fits. ![]() She’s a terrific athlete, but can’t go out into the sun to play soccer. She has said that the “Away From Keyboard” series will forever be her first love. ![]() From BDSM to Paranormal to military, she has her characters colliding with heat even as sparks always fly. The stories for both novels are on the cutting edge of sober science fiction - taking seemingly fantastical premises, like a man stranded on Mars or a small city on the moon, and grounding them by ensuring as much scientific plausibility as possible. " Artemis" was penned by Andy Weir, the same man who authored " The Martian," the 2011 novel which later became a critically acclaimed film, garnering seven Academy Award nominations, including a Best Actor nod for star Matt Damon, and is director Ridley Scott's highest-grossing film to date. Not since the days of Michael Crichton has a novel so clearly been waiting to be adapted to the big screen. ![]() It's not like I'm going out on a limb by saying that - Fox and New Regency have already acquired the movie rights to the novel (out Tuesday from Crown), and it was smart of them to do so. ![]() Hell yes, "Artemis" should be made into a movie. ![]() |
